The platform tariff is the first number everyone finds, and usually the smallest one they end up paying. Shoptet Basic costs 440 CZK a month excluding VAT, Shopify Basic 670 CZK, WooCommerce costs nothing. But transaction fees, shipping, apps and clicks on comparison sites all grow with your revenue, and those are what decide the monthly bill.
Every figure below has a source and a date. Tariffs and rates change roughly once a year, and for some items every fortnight, so read this article as a list of line items, not as a valid price list. The cost of building a shop is covered separately, in the article on what the price of an e-shop is made of.
Monthly costs have seven items and only one is fixed
The tariff is fixed. Everything else moves with revenue, with the number of parcels, or with whatever you have installed over the past year.
| Item | Where the number comes from | Grows with |
|---|---|---|
| Platform tariff | the platform's price list | number of products |
| Transaction fees | contract with the gateway | revenue |
| Shipping and surcharges | contract with the carrier | number and weight of parcels |
| Apps and add-ons | a separate subscription each | number of features |
| Comparison sites | click budget | ambition |
| Maintenance and support | SLA or hourly rate | age of the solution |
| Hosting and domain | your own on WooCommerce | traffic |
Anyone who counts only the first row gets a number an order of magnitude too small. The problem is not a surprise at the end of the year - it is that the platform gets chosen on the first row, and that is the wrong criterion. If you are having a shop built to order, this list belongs in the brief, not in the first invoice.
Platform tariffs: three different models, not three prices
Shoptet bills monthly and caps the number of products. Prices exclude VAT and annual payment gives a 10 % discount (shoptet.cz/cenik, retrieved 31 August 2026):
| Tariff | CZK/month excl. VAT | Product limit |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 0 | 10 |
| Basic | 440 | 100 |
| Business | 1,490 | 1,000 |
| Profi | 2,490 | 5,000 |
| Enterprise | 4,690 | 50,000 |
| Premium | from 12,000 | 100,000 |
Shopify does not cap products and separates tariffs by rates and reports. For Czechia it lists (shopify.com/cz/pricing, retrieved 31 August 2026):
| Tariff | Monthly billing | Annual billing, per month |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | 670 CZK | 499 CZK |
| Grow | 1,830 CZK | 1,370 CZK |
| Advanced | 9,510 CZK | 7,130 CZK |
| Plus | from 2,100 EUR | - |
Annual billing cuts the Shopify price by roughly a quarter and the Shoptet price by a tenth. You are, however, paying a year up front on a platform you may leave in six months, so the discount only makes sense once you have already decided.
WooCommerce is free and everything else is yours. Shared web hosting in Czechia starts at around 55 to 200 CZK a month excluding VAT (vedos.cz/webhosting, retrieved 31 August 2026), except that a shop with a thousand products and real traffic will not run on the cheapest shared plan. On top of that come the domain, the certificate, backups, paid plugins and somebody to keep it all updated.
Careful with VAT: platforms quote prices differently
Shoptet quotes prices excluding VAT. If you are not VAT registered, add 21 %: Basic costs you not 440 CZK but 532.40 CZK, Business not 1,490 CZK but 1,802.90 CZK. The gap between tariffs widens rather than narrows.
For services bought from abroad, which is what Shopify is, VAT depends on whether you are registered. It is one of the few items where it genuinely pays to ask your accountant, because the mistake repeats every month.
A percentage of revenue is the item that beats the tariff
This is where it is decided. The rate looks trivial until you multiply it by revenue.
Shoptet has its own gateway, ShoptetPay, with rates tiered by tariff: from 1.99 % + 2.8 CZK per transaction on Free down to from 1.19 % + 1.9 CZK on Enterprise. The word "from" is not there by accident and means your rate may be higher. Marketplace sales have their own rate, from 4.99 % of an order on Free to 2.59 % on Enterprise (shoptet.cz/cenik, retrieved 31 August 2026).
Shopify charges a fee for using a third-party payment gateway instead of Shopify Payments: 2 % on Basic, 1 % on Grow, 0.6 % on Advanced and 0.2 % on Plus (shopify.com/cz/pricing, retrieved 31 August 2026). For a Czech shop this is not a footnote - Shopify Payments is not yet available for every segment, so that percentage often gets paid.
A separate payment gateway adds a rate of its own. On its payment gateway page Comgate lists the Easy tariff at 0.6 % and the Pro tariff at 0.47 % plus 1 CZK per transaction, both as an introductory price for the first three months, with bank transfers free of charge (comgate.eu, retrieved 31 August 2026). The rate after the introductory period and the monthly fee both depend on turnover, so this is a number to request for your own volume rather than copy from an article.
A worked example: the more expensive tariff is often cheaper
Take a shop with 300 orders a month and an average order of 1,200 CZK, so revenue of 360,000 CZK. The figures below are illustrative, not an offer.
On Shopify, using a third-party payment gateway:
- Basic: 670 CZK + 2 % of 360,000 CZK = 7,870 CZK a month
- Grow: 1,830 CZK + 1 % of 360,000 CZK = 5,430 CZK a month
The tariff that is 1,160 CZK more expensive on the price list works out 2,440 CZK cheaper. The crossover happens at 116,000 CZK of monthly revenue, roughly three orders a day at the same average value. Anyone choosing on the list price of the tariff pays for it every month.
On Shoptet, with the same revenue and ShoptetPay, it goes the other way:
- Basic: 440 CZK + 1.8 % + 2.7 CZK per transaction = 7,730 CZK a month
- Business: 1,490 CZK + 1.6 % + 2.6 CZK per transaction = 8,030 CZK a month
On rates alone, the higher Shoptet tariff only pays off at around 504,000 CZK of monthly revenue at the same average order. Until then what pushes you up is not the percentage but the item limit: Basic ends at a hundred products. That is good news, because you can work out the product limit in advance, and revenue you cannot.
Shipping is the worst estimate, because surcharges are not in the parcel price
Carrier prices for shops are contractual and depend on volume, so no figure from an article will apply to you. What is public, and what does not make it into the calculation, are the surcharges.
Zásilkovna adds a road toll surcharge of 1.10 CZK per started kilogram excluding VAT from 1 February 2026 to every shipment, plus a fuel surcharge which from 1 September 2026 stands at 18.5 % and is set from the average monthly price of diesel (zasilkovna.cz/ceniky-a-priplatky, retrieved 31 August 2026).
Read that last figure again. The fuel surcharge is a percentage, not an amount, and it changes over time. If you put the contracted parcel price into your calculation and stop there, you have missed a line item that moves without any input from you and that at its current level adds 18.5 % to every shipment.
What follows in practice: do not calculate your free-shipping threshold from the contracted parcel price but from the price including surcharges, and recalculate it whenever the surcharge changes.
You pay for apps monthly, but they slow you down after uninstalling too
Apps and add-ons are billed monthly, each one separately, and their number grows quietly: product reviews, a loyalty programme, cart upsell, a page editor, chat, feeds. Ten small subscriptions is a line item comparable to the tariff.
The second part of the bill is not paid in crowns. Auditing one Shopify store - luxury cosmetics, six languages - we found that 6.9 MB of the 8.8 MB assets/ folder were images belonging to a loyalty app that had already been uninstalled. The page still carried 12 external scripts without the defer attribute from seven third-party domains, and one of them, polyfill.io, was returning HTTP 520 on 27 August 2026.
WebPageTest measured the same page on 24 June 2026 on a mobile profile with a cold cache: 10.6 MB of data and 548 requests from 57 third-party domains at an LCP of 19.2 seconds - with a server response time of 0.73 seconds. The platform was fast, the page was not.
How to find that sediment and what happens once it is removed is covered in the article on auditing apps. The trade-off is named there plainly: uninstalling an app speeds up the page and at the same time loses you a feature you were paying for.
Comparison sites are not a fee, they are a budget
Heureka and Zboží.cz are often counted as running costs, but they behave differently from a tariff. You pay per click through to the shop, the click price follows the product price including VAT, products under 20 CZK are not charged, and a click from full-text search or from the shop detail costs 3.49 CZK. Heureka revises its price lists roughly every two weeks according to season and competition (heureka.group, retrieved 31 August 2026).
That means two things. First, this is not a fixed item you pay and forget, but a budget somebody has to watch. Second, a full feed gives reach and simultaneously burns money on items with no margin, while a filtered feed saves money and reduces visibility. Both are legitimate, but it has to be a decision rather than an accident.
Maintenance is an item you pay for either way
After handover you get 30 days of warranty support from us free of charge. After that we offer three levels of service agreement: BASIC with a 48-hour response and 2 developer hours included, STANDARD with a 24-hour response, 4 hours and regular backups, and FULL with individual terms, a 12-hour response and 8 or more hours. Without an agreement we work by the hour: development 1,600 CZK, e-commerce 1,800 CZK, urgent intervention with a 4-hour response 2,500 CZK.
You can also choose "nothing". It is not free, it is just paid elsewhere. On WooCommerce, skipped maintenance means unpatched plugins and a vulnerable site; on hosted platforms it means a carrier integration that breaks after they change their API, and orders that do not reach the accounting system for a day or two.
Before you sign, ask for five numbers
You can ask anyone - the platform, the carrier, the gateway, or us.
- What is my transaction rate once the introductory period ends?
- Which surcharges are added to the parcel price and how often do they change?
- Which apps carry a subscription and what do they add up to per month?
- What is the monthly gateway fee at my revenue, not in general?
- What happens to the price when I exceed the product limit on my tariff?
The monthly cost of a shop is not calculated from a price list. It is calculated from your revenue, your parcel count and their weight. Until you have those three numbers, you are comparing platforms on their smallest line item.
We will do the maths on your numbers
Send us your monthly revenue, order count, average parcel weight and the list of apps you use. We will send back a breakdown per month and the places where something can be cut without losing a feature - usually duplicate apps and a badly chosen payment gateway tariff.
What we build and on what is on the e-shop development page. If you are also weighing up the build cost, start with the article on what the price of an e-shop is made of; the rules for comparison-site feeds are covered in the article on Heureka and Zboží.cz.
